Norwich Write-up

 Norwich event:

How it went- The event was 3 days long and started off smoothly for our team, but as the day went on more problems we were discovering and there was more issues that we needed to fix mid way through the event. I would say the event went well in the end as we got much needed feedback and were able to see what parts needed improvement and what parts went alright. We got to check out other peoples games and even got to see how universities students are doing such as how far ahead are they from us. We also had a great time with the talk being able to present our time at east Norfolk with others and telling them our story and how we got here and where it all started.

My talk- The talk went smoothly although was very nervous about it. It ended up going quickly as we just went through each of the points fast as there wasn't loads to talk about and were given loads of time. We ended up having a few people come and join our talk and interacted through all of it. The talk was also recorded for use so that I can show how it went and also just look back on it myself and improve for next time so that when I inevitably come back to this event I can properly do a full talk which will be more interactive. At the end of the talk we didn't have any questions although would have liked to as could have been very useful to test ourselves and our knowledge.

Problems I faced- We faced a few issues such as on the first day we had issues getting the equipment to set up our stand which was later solved by our teacher who popped in coming and sorting it out. We also had issues with our game throughout test playing and realized what was lacking in the environment itself which was discussed with the team. I faced the problem of not being able to present the game fully as It deterred people away from playing the game due to directional issues and small bugs which would prevent the player from doing certain actions. Last problem we faced was communication through the team on who and when are people leaving the event as then it means some people are left looking after the stand whilst others just go off and check out the rest and do their own thing or ,just go home instead.

What I enjoyed and not- I enjoyed interacting with the different people coming over and talking with them about our game. I also enjoyed being able to see and play different games at the event especially the games made by uni people so I can see how far ahead they are compared to us. I didn't enjoy the organization of this event as the teams weren't very organised and people didn't show up and some barely showed up. I also didn't enjoy having to stay at the booth constantly and not being able to look around as much. I really enjoyed just getting to talk with people about the game industry and games themselves. I really didn't like having to do all the talking and interacting with the people playing the game.

Reflection- The event went overall good as this was an amazing opportunity that I have been given to present my game and learn from it. Although the event had its up's and down's we got through it and gained some valuable knowledge from it and even some connections to uni students which will help expand our horizon. This event also allowed me to meet other games developers either showing off their projects or just walking around. There were things we could have done better and other things which we done to the best of our current abilities, but all in all I believe this event went great all id say is for next time id like to have a full team there each day and for simple problems not to be hidden under the rug.

would I do again- I would most definitely do this event again, matter of fact I have already planned for me and some mates to make a game together and present it next year or the year after. This event has given us so much experience and knowledge that will help throughout my career. I would also recommend this event to others that want to get into games design or have a passion for it.
