Development Log.3
Intro: Over the past few weeks much more development has been taken place and the first level is complete with much work done on level 2 so that we can almost get that up and running soon. The mechanic of crouching was added and worked on but didn't quite fit so it was removed from gameplay. 2 more things were added to the game one being a mini cutscene and the other being a new puzzle that's being worked on which is almost completed as this is being written. A lot of work has been done and a lot of improvements to the levels, art and story have been made which is setting us up nicely for this project to do well. The team is working hard together trying to complete as much as possible although at this point its not seeming the best but we still have a long way to go.
What's changed with current levels/mechanics: The changes made to the levels have made the game look 10x better which is amazing for us, these changes include more props and meshes added to add volume to the level making the environment look that much better. Level 1 was completed and with much more detail with the Suttle environmental additions with puddles and extrusions ect, with work on the second level already started with great progress which is where we planned to be right now, but I feel like we have hit a brick wall with that as level 2 has a lot involved with it. The change made to the mechanics of the game were simple such as crouching was added to the gameplay briefly but due to the clunkiness it was then removed a few days later due to not being what we envisioned for it, but nonetheless it didn't take away from development time really.
What's been added: A mini cutscene was added at the beginning once you complete the first puzzle which just points you in the right direction by showing the player what to pick up and what it might go with ect. Another thing that was added to the game was one of the biggest challenges as I optimized it and made it in a certain way which meant players couldn't skip part of the game, this is the creation of the symbol puzzle where in one room symbols (Numbers in the end) are put on a wall and 4 are randomly selected to be the answer to unlock the door in another room. The door gets the symbols chosen from the symbols spawned and makes the buttons connected to them be the only ones to work. This puzzle took lots of time and effort to create as it utilizes the blueprint interface which allows the communication between the two actors.
What's next: The next things to work on are more of the puzzles so that there's plenty of things to do and more additions like a pickaxe is still needed and boulders to destroy and monsters that move at certain places. mainly just making the game full of feels and intractability.
